Classes We Think You’ll Like

We missed you. Whether you were celebrating love in the air or the leadership of America, here are a few titles we think you would love and be proud of.

Ukulele the Easy Way

Ukulele

This is Art. He plays ukulele. Pay, Art, play.

Art Nagata will teach you everything there is to know about the ukulele–from tuning and playing chords to buying the right ukulele for you. I mean, just look at him. He’s playing an ukulele with 8 strings! You should also check out our “Fab”ulous version as Beatles Ukulele.

Judo (for Adults)

Jodu

It looks like these guys are floating. Acting. No, Judo actually.

Students will learn basic judo skills including throwing, groundwork (grappling), escapes and arm locks. No floating included. But seriously, the guy that does this is good.

NEW! Listening to the Movies

Film Reel

A film reel with a film of sorts that most likely contains music of sorts.

This is a new one for all of us. There will be special emphasis on influences from the Romantic Period and the use of Classical music in film. Films of Kubrick, Spielberg, and Hitchcock will be covered. I can only hope Jurassic Park comes up, please.

Tennis (Intermediate)

Nadal

Learn to stand like this guy. And hold the racquet like so.

What was once exclusive for the Intermediate-level player is now available for Beginners. Really, take a swing at it.

Comics: The Art of Storytelling

Jerrell Connor

Jerrell made this. He also make other pieces that are not of his face.

Ever wanted to create your own comic book? The answer? YES. This guy will show you how.

Chinese/Mandarin

Great Wall

Learn this language to ask “Where is the bathroom?”

This class will focus on learning Chinese through the Pinyin system, which is a quicker and easier way to grasp the language in a short period of time. No more need to use a borderline-insulting-asian-person accent.

We kick off this Saturday Feb 22! You should check out all the neat stuff we have going on here.

Classes at Harmony LA (located in the MALDEF building)

Image

This is the (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) MALDEF building. It is located at 634 S Spring St between 6th and 7th streets. Inside this building lies a small office for Harmony LA. While the office itself is small, the facilities themselves are huge! We will be offering a number of great offerings in fitness, arts, and plenty of fun! They include…

NEW! High School Yoga

NEW! Learn Qigong

Grant Proposal Writing & Identification – same great class with a new instructor who has plenty of experience with non-profits

NEW! Songwriting Workshop

Zumba – perfect after a full day at work, and need the cardio for release! $10 pays for 2 Fridays.

Now…this is in Downtown LA: not the best area for self-parking. You can try your luck, but you should try to take public transport (e.g. Metro), biking, or walking.

Images to come when they arrive.

Watch the Pharmacy Tech Orientation

Pharm Tech

In case you missed it, we had an orientation on Saturday for those interested Pharmacy Tech. It was a great turnout, and a lot was covered. Thank you to those who came, but for those who couldn’t make it, here are some of the highlights and interesting facts:

This class is offered on Saturdays–a first, and a popular option for working adults.

This is a 23-week course with one topic or “module” covered each week. Attendance is very important to get the most out of this class.

A payment plan is available! Pay half of the class now, and the balance at a later point. This is huge.
(This plan requires two payments of $875, totaling $1750. However you can also pay in full for only $1700!)

The cost of books are included in the class. Register as soon as possible to guarantee a timely delivery of materials.

By the end of the class, you will receive a document that is officially signed and marked by LACC that will qualify you to apply for the licensing exam

For those who asked, your proof of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is only required at the time you apply for the licensing exam. You do not need it to take the class.

Refunds are still a topic of discussion. But the gist is that approved refund request will provide a pro-rated refund to the student. After a certain point in time (e.g. after the class halfway point), refunds will not be allowed.

Externships are like internships, but you’ll do most of the logistics and scheduling yourself.  We are working with the instructor to finalize those details.

You can also watch the video below. Some audio to be desired, but the important bits are there.

Click here to sign up for the Pharmacy Tech class starting on February 22. Contact us for more info.

FREE Pharmacy Tech Orientation | Saturday Feb 8

Image

In case you haven’t seen, we are offering our Pharmacy Technician program at a sweet price point: it’s 1/10 that price you’ll find at the big-name career schools. But you may still have questions…

What is a Pharmacy Tech?

What do they do?

What kind of schedule is demanded?

What is an “externship?”

What will I receive at the end of class?

These questions and more will be answered at our FREE Orientation on Saturday, February 8, 10-11 am, held at the EWD Building Room 100. If not for yourself, think of someone you might think would be interested. See you there.

While on the subject, you should also check out our full selection of HealthCare classes.

What Is EWD?

The Economic Workforce Development (EWD) building is the home to many non-credit programs at City College, including Community Services. Our main office (EWD 501) and computer lab (EWD 700) are located here. This building has been used for operation of the Bookstore, ASG, Nursing, the Cafeteria, and more. It’s an old building with a new name. If you ask your way around campus, and you get some blank stares, don’t blame ’em. But being in an atypical setting, here’s some image to help guide you find EWD.

EWD-West

Looking West. There’s Holmes Hall straight ahead and Da Vinci on the right.

EWD-Vending

This view is from the vending machines at Da Vinci Hall. You see the Faculty & Staff Center.

EWD-South

EWD southside is on the right. To the left ( or father south) the Student Union building.

EWD-Pano2

EWD Panoramic view. Approximately the middle of the building. These are our office windows.

EWD-Pano1

EWD Panoramic view. The entrance is located at the first arches.

EWD-Inside

Once you enter, you’ll see an info desk (not ours). Out office doors are to the right. Our computer lab at EWD 700 is left around the corner.

EWD-East

Looking West. You’ll see a bit of the renovating Clausen Hall straight ahead.

EWD-501Sign
